I actually love September. Everyone is back on a schedule and yet the weather is beautiful, there’s no holidays to prepare for, and the weekends are still free from cheer competitions. For a long time I’ve wanted to go to Art Prize, which is a celebration of art in downtown Grand Rapids. I finally made a plan to make it happen, and it ended up being literally 100 degrees the day we went! It was still very cool to see, and I loved doing something that all the kids could enjoy!
Adrienne came home that Friday night. It was fun to have her back for the night! She was already requesting her favorite foods! Sukiyaki for the win.
In the morning we put on our coolest clothes and braved the heat…
Sof brought a notebook to keep track of pieces she liked, and she even got a few of the artist’s autographs! It kept her busy which was my main objective!
While we were in Grand Rapids, we had to stop at our favorite store Woosah! We know the owner, and we just think she’s the coolest and her store is the coolest. The girls dropped a pretty penny(mine) on some cool t-shirts and sweatshirts!
Then we met Nan and Emme for lunch at another super cool place!
Despite the heat, it was a really fun day! The heat continued in September, and we got to enjoy it toward the end of the month when we had a day off of school. It’s never what you expect to do towards the end of September, but we had a perfect beach day that day!
We stayed past dinner time and the kids were still going strong! Jill and I both had a bit of a bad attitude going into it. We Michiganders like our fall. We don’t fancy the beach at the end of September. We want apple orchards in our jeans! However, we couldn’t have had a more perfect day.
The fair came to town on another warm September day. We gave the kids the option of fair or beach and guess what they chose? They rode everything and definitely made the all day wristbands worth it!
It was dinnertime before we got the kids outta there, so we all decided to go out. It felt like summer all over again and we weren’t sad about it!
Sof continued to be into her bird feeder. So many September mornings that look like fall but felt like summer!
Jill approached me last spring about starting a Girls on the Run chapter at our school. We ended up with 5 coaches and 24 girls grades 3-5. It was a really fun experience, and even though Sof doesn’t LOVE running, she had a lot of fun.
Sof mostly liked the fact that she got to wear athletic clothes to school
twice a week!
Adrienne kept me updated on the happenings of college. Like meeting the author of “A Long Way Home”. Huge highlight for her!
She shared when she had a yummy meal.
Her weekly FaceTime conversations with Zach.
A little bit about her classes…
but mostly she shared when she was wearing something new, especially her Woosah shirts!
As I mentioned, it was extremely hot in September. This made the transition to dorm life that much more fun. We were very compassionate as evidenced by this text convo.
Third grade brought some serious spelling words. Turns out Sof is a fantastic speller! We got in the habit of practicing her words before bed on her white board.
We continued going to the gym before school on Mondays and Fridays. Sof still loves her cement balance beam.
Overall, September felt a lot like summer with school sprinkled in!
