Grandma had a few health problems in the fall. She ended up in the health center at her place. In talking with her over the phone, I could tell it was very hard on her being there. While she didn’t fully belong in the health center, she also wasn’t ready to go back to her big apartment on her own. I decided to make a trip there to assess the situation and find out our options. I was able to meet with all the right people, and determine that getting her into the assisted living was going to be the best decision for her. I was even able to see the apartment she would be in.
We pushed hard to have the apartment ready to move in in a week. We scheduled movers, Em and Mark had the day off, we even loaded Sof’s bed in our truck because Grandma needed a twin. The apartment wasn’t totally ready on the day(which caused a big little melt down for my mom), but we all chipped in and made it happen! We weren’t going to let Grandma stay one more day in the health center. The apartment ended up coming together very cute and Grandma even got to help put some of her “nifties” away.
Sof was happy to give up her bed to Grandma because that meant a big switch around at our house! Sof got Lexi’s bunk beds, and Lexi got the furniture in our guest room which grandma’s old bed would replace.
It just so happened that the kids had a day off of school just a few days after moving Grandma in. We loaded up to go back for a visit and put a few finishing touches on the place.
The first priority is always lunch! Panera is always a favorite of Grandma’s!
Then we went up to her room to hang a few things. Grandma has always loved to have magnet frames with pictures hanging on her fridge. The girls love to look at them too! Since she only has a tiny fridge in her new place, we had to find a solution for her magnets! Em found some metal sheets and we had them hung on the wall. It turned out so cute and she loves it!
Grandma really loved her new place from the start. The first word that everyone always calls it is “cozy”.
Change is always hard, but this was a really good move for Grandma. She has many of her creature comforts, and yet in a more manageable, supportive place. She’s very loved!
