My baby is 10. I feel really okay with this. I love who she is and who I see her becoming. I loved knee highs and Mary Janes, but I also love shower yo self. Independence is fun.
She asked me where her birthday shirt was. I failed. I always have a shirt that declares it’s the big day. But I guess at 10 I let go of that. She was totally thrilled that she got to pick her own clothing, which is leggings and sweatshirt er’y damn day.
We did dinner at home because she likes that best. Breakfast food is her favorite. I think Lexi was about her age when we did breakfast for dinner on one of her birthdays. I couldn’t justify cake if dinner is pancakes with whip cream, so we sang first!
Both Adrienne and Livy facetimed her. I love that they do that on their own. Adrienne is used to that drill, but this was the first time Livy wasn’t with us. She was at dance and facetimed(on her own, without being told to) between classes.
She opened gift from us. Her absolute favorite was a volleyball from Emmy! She’s looking to follow in Kaitlyn’s footsteps!
It worked out that we could have her kid party the very next day! She chose a new location by us called “Defy”. Tons of bouncing and obstacle type stuff for them. The kids had an awesome time!
She has so many nice girls in her class, and it was hard to narrow it down to these 10!
One friend had to leave early, but she wrote Sof the sweetest card!
One of the little girls from Sof’s cheer team came. She was the only cheer friend and knew NO ONE. I was so proud of how she joined right in and the girls were so welcoming and conscious of including her. These girls are so great.
The biggest gift of the night was that Scarlette showed up! Sof and Scarlette were besties in class last year, but Scarlette’s family moved over the summer. We had one play date, but I couldn’t find her mom’s phone number. Sof has missed Scarlette desperately. Scarlette had written her new address in Sof’s yearbook(so old school, LOL) and Sof wrote her a letter. Like paper and pencil people. Scarlette wrote her back and included her facetime address. On her actual bday, Sof was able to finally face time with Scarlette. During the conversation I got her mom’s phone number, and the morning of Sof’s party I confirmed Scarlette could come! I didn’t tell Sof, and it was the most awesome thing to see these friends reunited!
It was a great night, easy peasy party, and done on a weeknight! Mom win.
My Sweet Baby Girl,
You continue to bring so much joy to our lives. I wish you would pick up after yourself. Maybe 10 will be the year you stop leaving a trail everywhere you go. Yeah, I didn’t think so. It’s hard to complain because I love the projects you get in to. The other night you spent hours listening to the song your teacher has on her website and writing down every state and it’s capital as you listened. On your birthday you asked me if your other parents are still alive. “Maybe they are thinking, hey, it’s our daughter’s birthday today”, you said. Just matter of factly. You are wondering. I am too. I was honest, I don’t know. I really don’t. However, there are so many things I do know. You like Littlest Pet Shop still, you love to follow YouTube directions to make crafts, you love the book series Weird School and can read one in a day. You want daddy to snuggle you every night before bed. You love your sisters and your cousins. You have the kindest, funniest friends. Who you surround yourself with says a lot about who you are. I love the choices you have made and I love you! You are an awesome kid and I can’t wait to see what you do with your first double digit year!
Love, Mommy XOXO
